At a Child’s Place Preschool we believe that a child under the age of six requires the one on one attention that can be provided in small ratios. Children must feel supported and encouraged in their everyday activities so that when the time comes to begin elementary school, they feel confident and have a sense of pride in themselves. At a Child’s Place Preschool children will get the curriculum and structure of a large center but experience it in a more comfortable environment. The children will have the opportunity to participate in such daily activities as:
Circle time: Reading stories, playing games, singing songs, calendar, sign language and learning about our weekly theme.
Art: Painting, gluing, coloring, crafting, cutting and learning small motor skills.
Language: Learning our letters, signing letters, learning how to hold a pencil, practicing writing our names and participating in the "Hooked on Phonics" program.
Math: Matching games, counting, number recognition, writing numbers and sorting.
Music and Movement: Learning new songs, singing along with music, dancing to music, moving with ribbons and using rhythm sticks.
Science: Cooking, exploring our outside world, weather, animals, bug collecting and how our bodies work.
Fun and Games: Letting the children be children, having free time to develop who they are, playing with other children, learning to become independent and just having fun.
Although all of these activities help a child’s growth and development, it is also our understanding that each child is their own person. What one child benefits from at circle time, another child may equally benefit from building with blocks. We also believe that children learn more by hands on experiences. We encourage the children to play and explore the world around them; getting dirty in the process is part of the fun. What better way to understand the rain than putting on jackets and going outside to step in the puddles? Through out the day the children will receive healthy meals and snacks. They will be encouraged to run and be active and when the time comes, to rest.
To keep the children in a positive setting, we use redirection as a guidance tool. If a child is having a rough time they will be presented with other options. All children will be treated as an equal and respected as such. Children will be taught to be kind to others and to include all of our friends.
Since the first five years of a child’s life are the most important, A Child’s Place Preschool takes pride in offering a safe and nurturing environment that encourages children to learn and have fun, and at the same time providing parents with the reassurance that their child is receiving the best possible preschool experience.
